With effect from January 1 this year, there was introduced a new regulation in France, which according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, imposes an obligation to indicate blind spots, so the spots that aren’t seen by the driver. This applies to vehicles of total weight over 3,5 tons – trucks, buses, and coaches. The exceptions are agricultural and forestry vehicles as well as transport means of winter and emergency services.
Where and how the sign should be placed?
- Should be placed at the heigh from 0,90 m to 1,50 m above the ground.
- Should be placed on the back of a vehicle as well as on its both sides.
- Cannot hinder the visibility of the registration plates, lights and signaling devices.
- Cannot limit driver’s visual field.
Failure to comply with the regulation or incorrect placement of the signs can result in severe financial penalties from 135 up to even 750 euros!
